Dansmachine4

Dansmachine4 is an interactive art installation by Jérôme Siegelaer (better known internationally as VJ Stalker) that explores dance movements and body language. The installation is manipulated by those viewing and experiencing it as their movements are reflected in elegant projected images of Scapino Ballet dancer and former gymnast Brandon O’Dell.

Dansmachine4 offers you an aesthetic experience through the stunning images projected around you on huge screens while you communicate with your own body at the same time. As a result, you become aware of your personal capabilities and limitations while creating a continuum of energy by interacting with the dancer, thus setting not only your body but also your mind into motion.

Dansmachine4 is an ode to the beauty of the moving body that is at once powerful and fragile. Jérôme Siegelaer explores the language and dynamic of the body in an attempt to emphasise the inescapable mood conveyed by the body.

During STRP 2009 Scapino Ballet company member Brandon O’Dell will perform in the installation on 2 and 3 April. Dansmachine4 is part of the art exhibit at STRP and will be open to see and experience throughout the entire festival.

The music for Dansmachine4 is composed by Ivar Bjørnson, the founder and composer of the internationally well-known metalband Enslaved. In addition, two VJs will be part of Dansmachine4: Daniel Dommermuth (Germany) and Nicola Saponaro (Italy), along with two technicians, Herman Budde and Bram Snijders.

Dansmachine4 was developed further at the request of STRP Festival and was created in cooperation with Ed Wubbe, choreographer and artistic director of the Scapino Ballet, Rotterdam. Previous Dansmachines have been exhibited at the Rijksmuseum Twenthe (Enschede), Zenith (Turin), Nieuwe Kerk (The Hague), Van Abbemuseum (Eindhoven) and De Nederlandsche Cacaofabriek (Helmond).
